There are two types of resources when it comes to writing, these resources include:
- Primary resources
- Secondary resources

Primary resources
Primary resources refers to anything that is original and can be taken on its own. Primary resources are original resources. Texts are considered original when someone has not talked about it before.

Some examples of primary resources are:
- texts that recorded are transcribed
- government records
- historical records
- speeches
- interviews
- raw satistical data
- newspaper

Secondary resources
Secondary resources put simply are things that are not a primary resource. There has been some sort of interaction with the primary resources (critiqued/interpreted). It usually provides interpretation of the first-hand accounts and there's more arguments.

Some examples of secondary resoures are:
- textbooks
- biographies
- critiques
- documentaries

Classroom Activity - Looking for Primary Resources

After we were given the introduction on Primary and Secondary resources, we were divided into our groups. We were all given a topic and we were required to choose 3 primary resources to be used for our given topics and we had to share with the class on what they were and how we to obtain these resources. Our topic given to our group was

'Malaysian Novels that address the issues of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)'

Initially, we chose works of literature, artworks and film/videos. But then we realized it was rather impossible to find artworks that could be related with our topic. Hence, we replaced artworks with actual clinical report/findings on PTSD. We will be obtain literature works (novel) at local bookstores like MPH and Kinokuniya, we will look for actual clinical reports/findings on the Internet through credible sources and search engines and we will look for videos on our topic from YouTube.
