Es ist ein neues Semester! Und es ist der letzte :(
(It is a new semester, and it is the last)
I'm both pleased and scared to be back.
This semester, I will be taking 5 minor courses and 2 major courses. I'm supposed to be taking 3, but I had problems (it clashed) registering it in the previous semesters.
So let's talk about one of my minor classes this semester.
BBI3223- Approaches to Reading and Writing. (1st Lecture)
To be honest, my English has gotten all rusty. The past years of learning the German language has made me neglect the English language. (I'm honestly wary about my usage of words as I'm writing this). Therefore, I am hoping to sharpen my English through my minor classes.
On Thursday, I had my first BBI3223 class with Dr. Ikhlas. Was I nervous? Yes, very. But after going through the course introduction with her, things got a little bit better to me. I was briefed about our on-going assessments, and what we will be doing throughout the whole course.
Blogging and Social Media Engagement (10%)
Report Writing (10%)
Research Portfolio (5%)
Research Paper (20%)
Glossary (5%)
Test 1 and 2 (20%)
Finals (30%)
I was relieved when she said that we were allowed write a chapter from our thesis as our Research Paper. (I need all the help I could possibly get with my thesis.)
For our first lecture, we talked about the 'Interconnections between Reading and Writing'.
"What is reading and what is writing?" asked Dr. Ikhlas
Now that she asked about it, I never actually thought about what these words actually meant. When someone tells you ''to read or write" you don't usually question them what it means, you automatically read and write. It was an epiphany for me.
We first talked about writing, and we were taught about the Unidirectional and Multidirectional Model of Writing. These models further discuss the connection between speech and writing. Then were introduced to the differences between speech and writing. Afterwards, we moved to reading, and the two processes involved in reading.
